Top 5 Communication Apps on Android in Kenya Q1 2024

The first quarter of 2024 saw significant activity among the leading communication apps on the Android platform in Kenya. Here's a closer look at the performance of the top five apps: WhatsApp Messenger, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Messenger, and Snapchat.

WhatsApp Messenger had an impressive quarter. Weekly downloads started at around 71K in early January and surged to over 830K by the end of March. Active user counts also showed a steady increase, from approximately 12.2M at the beginning of January to over 14.1M by the end of the quarter.

WhatsApp Business also demonstrated strong growth. Weekly downloads rose from about 39K in the first week of January to 356K by the last week of March. Active users increased from around 725K to over 819K during the same period.

Telegram saw consistent performance with a notable increase in weekly downloads, starting at 25K in early January and reaching 126K by the end of March. Revenue for Telegram showed a steady climb, peaking at $383 in the final week of the quarter. Active users fluctuated slightly but generally trended upwards, ending the quarter at approximately 1.95M.

Messenger from Meta Platforms, Inc. had a remarkable increase in downloads, starting at 26K in early January and jumping to 178K by the end of March. Active users also saw growth, from around 3.3M in January to over 3.8M by the end of the quarter.

Snapchat experienced a steady increase in weekly downloads, beginning at 32K in the first week of January and reaching 71K by the end of March. Revenue for Snapchat showed a gradual increase, peaking at $129 in mid-March. Active users saw a slight increase, starting at 1.77M and ending the quarter at approximately 1.98M.
